Hi. I have a 1985 928 Euro. Given to me by dad, and the thrust bearing went. Block was milled by crank.
Now I need an engine for a 1985 928 Euro. Can anyone out there in Porsche land help me out? Point me in the right direction?
The car is highly sentimental to me as it was given to me by my father.

I believe that almost all of the Euro in 85 were the 16 valve with the spider intake.
If yours is 16 valve the engine number would be M28/21 or M28/22. One is a 5 sp and the other an automatic.
Others are more knowledgeable than I about engine swaps but this should point you in the right direction.
try

Good Luck

David,
Welcome.
You've got a few options depending on how bad the block is. Photos (after you're a member) are a very good idea to let the group evaluate the damage. You might get lucky and be able to save the block, or it may be caffee table material. No way of knowing until it's checked out thoroughly. If Mark's got one in stock, the December Sale is a good option to save a few bucks......(It's 50% off).
Budget is a big issue too. If you're up for it, financially that is, the absolute best option is in L.A...........

Thanks Wally but that doesn't help me if I don 't know how to set it up and use it here on the forum.
I'm used to (been spoiled now) by the WORD automatic set up.....
I know, sucks to be me...and I should then proof-read or type it into Word first etc. etc.![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)

David much depends on if you can and will be doing the work yourself. If you are paying "mechanics" your options are $$$$ or $$$$$$$$. The odds of finding a good 26 year old Euro engine is pretty slim and all would need a reseal, hoses, fuel lines, T-belt, water pump etc. etc.
The 5 liter option with notched pistons means a complete rebuild which could run $10,000 before you were all done fixing the engine. And the rest of the car would still be old and probably in need sooner or later.
You might consider what your Dad would have done if he were faced with this situation.

Is it a Euro 16V 4.7 or a Euro 32V 5.0?
Sure don't hear of many 16V cars suffering from TBF, though perhaps it happens.
For that matter, is it a "Euro" at all. Seems to be a sport out here in the midwest of mislabeling USA 928 cars as their grey market equivalents.
Please post your VIN number and / or shoot some pictures of front of car and engine bay so we can truly help you.

Don't make any quick decisions- the help you can get here is truly the best. Given time, someone
will come up with a good solution that makes financial sense.

DIY or are you going to have a mechanic do this for you?
Pics would be nice, but to find an Euro engine to drop in would be pretty tough.
And to have a mechanic swap all your bits on to a donor engine would be pretty costly.
Is it a 4.7 2 valve? Is it an S model?
and yes, where in NY?
