I'm trying to find a replacement head unit for the stereo. I have noticed that the 1982 and older 928's have a more narrow slot for the stereo.
My question - do I have to cut the dash to fit a modern unit?
Will a Becker cdr 220 fit in this narrow slot?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If you use a modern unit you will have to cut the trim.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT.
I will give you one that is already cut and give you $100 for the uncut original.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I am guessing they are hard to come by Roger? I bought a used center console recently, to cut and modify, as I did not want to cut my original....my thought was to move my A/C controls down, and install a double din unit (a long way down the road) I think the vinyl is peeling a little, it might need recovering..if you have one that already has been cut, and are looking for uncut ones, I might have some interest in working something out with ya.....PM or email me....I am in no hurry....

I fit an alpine in my 78 euro without cutting, can't put the pretty trim surround on it, but you really can't tell since it's so tight in there anyway. i'll take a look at the model in the am if you'd like. it's a $200 unit with bluetooth, decent power, etc

Thanks Matt. My heart is set on trying to keep the car original and clean looking. I had another 82 928 about 15 yr ago but I can't remember the model number of the Alpine unit it had installed. I know it was not original but it looked good. This current car has an after market Blaupunkt but the face plate extends over the trim and looks stupid. It has not caused any damage but I can't just leave it looking as it does.
I know prople have fit stereo head units into this space without cutting but I was not sure how new I can go or which models would fit in the space.
