Thermostat change - no permatex, correct?
1984 US Model
I need to install a new thermostat over the weekend and was looking at the parts list (thermostat, rubber seal, o-ring) It seems that the o-ring is what keeps the outer housing water tight.
Most of my past experience has been with cars that use a traditional gasket with a light coating of permatex on both sides.
Am I correct that the o-ring is sufficient and you do not put any sort of permatex or coating material on the mating surface of the thermostat housing?
Thanks.
