Default Fog light lens "deflector"?

89 S4'

I recently replaced a few headlamp bulbs and in the process of doing a "before and after" comparison, I noticed one of my fog lights had a different "look" than the other. They are both aimed the exact same and throw off the same light.

Upon further inspection, it seems my newer fog light doesn't have the black plastic deflector that the older one has (replaced one of the fog light lenses last year).

I recently changed a bulb in the older fog light and that is when I saw this black plastic "deflector" (it basically sits around the top area of the bulb and blocks out some light I assume?). It is only in the lens that sits closer to the middle - the "high beam" lens area doesn't seem to have this deflector.

So, is that deflector thingy supposed to be there?

91 views and no replies - perhaps this thing is not supposed to be there.

I'm going to pull the fog lights this weekend and look inside - will take pics to show what I am talking about.

Both fog lights should have the black "shade"- sounds like one of yours has broken off or perhaps it was replaced with a driving light (which does not have a shade). The shade directs the light down to be effective in fog. 928Int probably has used fog light housings or maybe even the missing part.
