I reverse into my garage when possible...DD has reversing sensors so stop when I get continuous tone (~12").
I use these - Narva 82015 socket and 82110 plug at the below link. The plug has a 'positive' centre connection , rather than a rubbing one typical of this type of connector. Socket is under the license plate, fused to battery pole. I would rather its not visible to those who arent looking for it. If the incoming lead could pull straight out as you drive off, its got to be in line with the cars centre?

I settled on a rather conventional two-pole Molex connector set many years ago. A small motorcycle-size charger I bought came with them, and since they are readily available, I put them on almost everything that needs disconnecting from the car. Chargers, maintainers, etc. Plus I added a utility cigarette-lighter cord, a cigarette-lighter socket, a Y-cable, an extension cord, a couple with little battey clamps for connecting to other things, and a handy 100 watt inverter to the mix. All are now "universal" to any other accessory. It all started with wanting to charge Group 1 Sea-Doo batteries while traveling to distant rivers and lakes. And maintaining them while on the trailer at home. Driving, the inverter runs the 'smart' maintainer, extension to the trailer, Y to the two boats. It was pretty painless to add the same connectors to the front and rear of the 928.

Thanks for the recommendation on the fuse Dr bob. i am going to do that asap, never thought about the battery's current... and thanks Depami, those connectors are a great idea and are available WITH the inline fuse and a glowing LED, even better!
