Exclamation HELP What is this....

1985 s3 us.
At the base of the oil filler neck. Anyone know what this is.....
A. What is it for.....
B. should it go bad / stop working.....
C. what is its part number can not find it ....

A. Check valve to prevent air flowing in and to allow air flowing out
B. Then the oil breather system isn't working as designed

As Aryan said, it is a crankcase vent valve. It only opens above a certain pressure threshold to allow crankcase pressure to flow into the intake. I was able to clean mine with some carburetor cleaner. I don't think it is available separate from the filler neck.
