I just drove the 928 home from the shop, which is now closed. The coolant warning light came on about a mile from home. When I parked, there was steam coming from the hood. Opened it up, and there was green liquid sprayed all over the engine and dripping down from the hood liner. I have left the hood open a crack.
The mechanic just replaced the coolant tank and sensor.
Anything to do immediately?

maybe he forgot to tighten some hose? How old are all your cooling hoses?
if drip from the front where the v belt - waterpump.
heater valve short hose?
presure test the system or just fill the coolant and start it up to see where it's coming from.
hope this help.

Go to Autozone, Pepboys, etc., and rent a coolant pressure tester. Fill the system to spec, pressurize the system with tester and see what leaks. Tech should have done this before he gave the car back to you!

Immediately, no. Wait for it to cool off.
Check the cap is on correctly, and the sensor housing isn't cracked.
Next on my list would be the valve from the collant tank on the PS fender. I haven't had one go, but that would probably give a wide coverage spray like you desribe.

I'm pretty ignorant about these things, but the idea of leaving coolant sprayed all over a 928 engine inspires some concern. I won't towel it down if it's fine to sit overnight.

Coolant itself will not damage car parts, but it is toxic to pets. DO NOT leave a puddle of it anywhere that a pet could lick which they are prone to do so b/c it has vague sweet taste (to them) and it will cause kidney/liver damage/death. I would dry any electrical parts ASAP. It seems nasty b/c you can't really wipe it from your hands b/c it has a lubricant, but soap and water will remove it easily.
