Who pounced on this Ebay Euro?

What you talking bout Willis? Could you explain. Looks like you have a new wiring harness.
EDIT: Erik, if you are talking about the Porsche Crest and the casting ridge, one was removed and the other ground away, then polished to a mirror finish, blindingly smooth.
Brian, someone took this photo at the Boston event many years ago, when I was trying out M21sniper's red airbox look. This intake will blind you if the sun hits it, no paint or coating just the right grinding/polishing. (so heat escapes)

The factory brain in 84/86 is the worst of the lot, better versions have been available for decades and recently substantially improved by Porken for the US models with no reason to assume those same gains won't apply to the Euro motor.
Here is one of mine with the natural patina of dirt.

Porsche did a great job with most things including the overall look, but they cut a few corners and were a little lazy in spots, most likely to keep the price down. So stock is good, just not great, and I have never liked dirt. I believe anyone seeing a stock intake next to mine would go with mine.
Same thing with the all-SS exhaust I built, you can see the tips in the pic last page. It looks better, it sounds way better, it's lighter, and it functions better than stock. And I wouldn't mind replacing another stock item, the exhaust headers with the ones Greg made;

Now It would be nice if someone could make us a nice air intake box and runners out of CF so that the bay would be complete;

If we had that type of professional CF airbox with a 928 script on it and "euro" in red and "4.7 V8", the only engines that would rival a euro for looks would be the Cadillac Sixteen, the AM One-77, and the Zonda F.

Mine is on the way. otherwise I would post a photo (of my own). I hear it's pretty sick, however. When it got loaded onto the trailer, I heard it's spewing oil all over the place.
Room for improvement, I guess!

The issue with the engineering is that they're doing a car with a skeleton crew compared to what major manufacturers have. That leads to bad decisions that can't be easily remedied. They didn't have staff to thoroughly design and test so problems (Oiling system!) just nagged on for the life of the car. The plan is that very sharp guys make the right decisions. It works a lot, but when it doesn't it's a real problem.
Any before/after test results with those headers?

I've been on here for a couple years lurking; I pretty regular on Pelican mostly for the 930 guys but seeing this thread on this 928, I have a couple questions.
So, I've been looking casually for a manual 928 Euro in either red or white for a number of years. Being in CA there are lots of 928's that make the rounds...some good, most are not. Having read this thread on this particular Euro I understand it's not all roses, but for me I feel I am low on options and this one checks all the boxes for me (with the exception of the interior color). I know the selling scenario might not be the best but I am willing to deal with a low-level flipper if the car is correct. I've watched this car during it's on and off ebay career and figured there is more to it, and since I'm 3k miles away, all the more reason to be skeptical. After this thread however, I am willing to take a flier on it and see if I can get it inspected and move forward.
I know absolutely no one in or near the Buffalo area. Is there an independent that someone could recommend within an acceptable distance? Did anyone here ever end up with a VIN or any additional info? My opinion is such that if the car checks out and the federalization is decent, I don't mind dealing with this person. I am sure he wants to sell it and seems like the odds of me finding a decent mile red Euro are getting less and less bright plus I'm losing steam in trying to find one. Thanks, John

I don't think they cared one bit about cost. These were $35,000 cars in 1980!

Don't forget full leather interiors in 928's cost a few grand more, nothing was free with Porsche. I can't remember the nitty gritty on the headers, but Greg was always after more performance.

Brian,
Thanks for the reply.
Registering in CA is a challenge for most anything relatively "vintage". Most of us guys out here that are interested in oddball, modified, or euro-spec stuff need to find the channels and pay the price unfortunately- but we do it. Kind of a shame really as most enthusiasts with questionably compliant cars keep them in top shape and they are rarely on the the road so the impact is nil.
Anyway, hopefully someone will chime in with a ppi spot and I will be happy to post my findings. I'd love to put this in my 80's line up and solidify some high school memories.
Thx.

You need to research the California registration issue it is NOT just getting a rat smog certificate. Over the years I had many customers run into the brickwall of getting an out of state grey market car legal in California. Most shipped the cars back out of state or sold them to Mark A to be taken apart.
Basically California does not accept that the car WAS ever federalized due to all the falsifications and defunct "labs" so you have the option to do it all over again with someone that the state will approve. Thousands of dollars at best. But look into it yourself as all I have is heresay from several individuals.
Currently registered grey market cars in California just need the normal smog cert but when the DMV sees the ZZZ in the Vin it is game over for a out of state car.
