Default Interesting Electrical Quirks and Quarrels

I'll just start off:

- One of the trumpets will sound with the car off and press the horn pad- both will when the car runs.
- The defrost switch will turn on with the car off, and drain the battery most of the way in the process.
- The dash lights will turn on with the light switch turned on - car off
- Windows roll up or down even with car off (may have been solved?)

Just PO fudged-up wiring perhaps? Also noticed that a ground was disconnected from underneath the dash pod, wrapped with electrical tape. Appears to run to the computer in the left side footwell (ABS I presume). Does not seem to be creating any ill effects...yet.

My windows and sunroof doopen and close with ignition off. But I have to open the door...
Not sure if they are supposed to though...
Trumpet problem sounds like a bad connection or dirty trumpet. I tried cleaning mine as they did just produce a silly squeeking sound. But ended up replacing them with twin air trumpets. Sounds beautiful now.
Dash lights turn on with light switch on in both positions with ignition off.
Defrost switch: with ignition off I hear relay click when pushing switch. I think it should switch off after fixed period of time. At least that is what I understood it should do...

Hope this helps. All of the above was tested on my 1984euro S2 5spd black 928.
Leo.

On a Euro this is the correct operation.

Thanks Alan. Makes me wonder why they made them that way. Why should they not work with the door closed?

Security

Its reasonable to suppose if the door is open you're there.

However if you want to leave the car locked with the window cracked, the buttons need to be disabled so thieves with a stick can't just wind the windows down.

I'm guessing in the USA they have to be disabled at all times when the key's not in the car to protect the children.. won't somebody think of the children!!

That's one thing that annoys me swapping between my 944 and a 928 (other than I sit on the other side).

The 944 was Oz-delivered - windows work with key out UNTIL I open a door. Sunroof does not.

On the other hand, the '88 928 is a US-spec car - works the same way, except that the sunroof works as well.

On the gripping hand, the '89 928 is a German-spec car - windows and sunroof work with the key out WHILE a door is open.

Now, if i can only get the wife's Subaru swapped so that the indicator switch is on the left, I won't keep turning on the wipers to go round a corner.

The Subaru problem is easily fixed.. get her something German. If not a 928, an Allroad should be pretty similar to the Scooby. Then the wipers will be on the right side
