Default How to test a 1978 fuel accumulator

My '78 has a fuel accumulator of the type that has the vent on top. How can I tell if the fuel accumulator is OK? It is out of the car but I can imagine that it is important to know if it leaks before puttingit back. I can imagine that a leak would result in the upper champer above the diaphragm to fill up with fuel if pressurized with fuel from the underiside as is the case when it's in the car.

I recall having this same question......the answer was "does it leak"....... which would be difficult to test not being on the car....

it has a rubber diaphram inside if that breaks fuel leaks out the vent on the very early CIS , later they added a return line so you would not be spraying fuel all over in front of the right rear wheel.

put it back in line, jump the relay to run the pump, check for fuel at the vent.....or just replace it anyway. How old is it again ? I replaced mine, which had a blocking screw in the vent hole, and hot/warm starting improved considerably.

As a cheap work around several feet of high pressure fuel line rolled up into a coil will do the same thing. Just as a garden hose with a spray nozzle will spray even after the hose bib on the house is turned off so will the length of fuel line store pressure and fuel volume.
