After driving from Vail (east of Tucson) and then planing to return Sunday, a fun drive does not hold as much appeal as you would think... I love going on the drives, but I think I want some can rest time..

I am excited about the fun run just based on past experience. My first Sharktoberfest was 2006, the fun run was on Saturday and I'd bet 30+ cars participated. It was awesome. I'm pretty sure we went to Brazilian BBQ afterwards and that had great turnout too. Nicole posted a video of it somewhere.
In the years since, the fun run has been on Sunday, and participation has been a dozen or less. Most people leave by mid afternoon. There was a tech session last year at around 3 and there were less than a dozen people there by the end. So the actual fact is that the tech session is splintering the afternoon, and that the best "all day" participation is to do the fun run on Saturday with dinner afterwards.

Knowing the roads, the "fun" part of the road happens first thing in the morning.
Done a few and know better. If you want a parade stance, welcome to the afternoon temps.

If we are taking the same up mountain trail as before. It could be a pretty high altitude oven by noon considering the weather lately. i think the elevation was somewhere around 5000-10000 ft if memory serves. That and there's bound to be more traffic around that time, with those twists and turns and very few pull over spots.

In 2003 or maybe '04 Keith Widom plotted out a drive in the OC area that was really good & for the longest time I saved the map of that route in the hope of driving it again. It was a nice rural, scenic drive with some interesting elevation changes. Now I can't find the map... figures. If anyone else remembers the drive/route you might want to chime in here. The mountain drives, if that is what is being planned can be thick with LEO's at that time of day looking for revenue and a long chain of Porsches might be considered a target-rich environment. Anyone recall the 2005 Rim of the World drive? Keith and I managed to "avoid" that.

Mark:
When I get the new front glass installed, I will likely have the 3M factory rep come out to install their 5% Crystalline film on the glass. Visibly invisible, but blocks all UV, and most IR heat as well. Amazing stuff.
If its OK with you, I may ask if they can come and do mass tinting in general.

Any update from the 3M factory rep? I have reserved a windshield for installation on the 20th and am interested in the 3M film for it. I have heard great things about the film also. I'm hoping it will help lower inside temps in the summer. Also, do you have a ballpark figure for cost?
Thanks

One price I have installed with glass IN the car is about $260 for the front window.
I will be in town the week after SF instead of before..so I just might do that then.
Also..Im going to call and ask if I can buy a window ahead of time, have it taken TO the tint shop, and then brought for install on Saturday.

Challenge is someone doing this on-site. Most REALLY wanna be in their cleanish garage with no airborne dust to screw it up.

Having the windshields brought to them in advance sounds like a great idea. When I last spoke with Gabriel you and I are the only two that have reserved windshields--and he has them in stock. With this much lead time it should be do able. I will gladly pay for the windshield in advance (plus a reasonable fee for delivery and pick up from the film installer) if Gabriel can be convinced to do it. Let me know what I need to do to help make this happen.

Oktoberfest at Alpine Village is OK, but very much a commercial event tailored to the gringo ta$te$. IMHO, your time might be better spent in the company of the Sharktoberfest crowd. At least you'll be hangin' with beer-swilling German enthusiasts whom you know.

Your 'fun run' will be westbound 91 freeway from 928 International starting sometime around 5pm. Not my idea of 'fun' but to each his own.
