Apparently Not My Day to Die

Mark,
Glad you didn't hit anything, very lucky of course in that crowded area. Also good to hear you have your car back on the road. Is there still construction around Taylor street, or is that all finished up?
No clue what caused your spinout, but I would think it would be a good idea to find a big open parking lot where you have lots of room and can get up to speed and play around with it. See if you can get it to do it again, and learn from it. Also a good check of the suspension makes sense. If you want to swap out wheels/tires to test that theory, let me know.
As for DE, I've learned recently that my daughter's best friend's father is a DE instructor at Texas World Speedway. He's a great guy and I imagine a very good instructor, so I'm wondering if we could put together a 928 group event at TWS, or at least join some other event as a group. I've never done DE but I'm ready to give it a try.

I just did a 480 spin around this week at 70mph coming from Arkansas - time to do some DE again - sign us up

Burning Brakes
I did a spin on a on ramp , off onto the grass . I was so far in no one could see me . Got my wife to tow me out with our Jeep . No damage except to my ego . Driver error ! old tires / cold pavement / dew . Tossed the car and totaly unbalanced it , I should know better ! I was pulling grass out for weeks .

I know PCA teaches this ..
"That last part is where folks get in trouble-- every intuition (and maybe the co-pilot) is screaming "slow down!" but that will only make it worse-- the faster you slow, the lighter the rear end will become and the less traction that will be available from the rear tires. You need to get some power back on to get some weight on the rear. "
However if I have exceeded the grip available to the rear tires (car is skiding) how will trying to accelerate help ?? There is no traction for any acceleration so no weight transfer. The only thing I can think is IF the rear is loose due to the effect of engine braking (sudden lift of the throttle) getting it back to a steady state no decelleration would allow all the traction to be used again for cornering.
Maybe 911 based, but if you manage to get the rearend loose on a 928 getting on the gas might just put you upside down on your roof as you oversteer off the road.

I'll put new tires on as soon as I find someone selling a set of Panamera 10-spoke 18" take-offs for a reasonable price. Until then, I'll just keep it WNL.

When the next emergency arises, though, I want to be able to manage it. I'm glad I kept it off the wall, but keeping it off the wall to wind up facing oncoming traffic was suboptimal.

The other option is a multi-day professional course, e.g. Bondurant, Skip Barber etc. Sue and I took Bondurant's 3-day course together, decades ago when they were at Sears Point, and they did a terrific job. By getting totally immersed for three days you really "get it", and it begins to become second-nature.

No, but I will. My dad's van is in my shop right now, but once we're done with that I'll lift the GT and inspect under it.

The construction is done. Any suggestions for a big open parking lot?

Race Car
I was in my Subaru SUV with all-wheel drive, made too quick a move into the left lane on a 2 lane highway with Jersey Barrier to my left and cars to my right. Car was headed into the wall. Pulled the wheel right and gave it just enough braking but overcorrected to the right, then accelerated back to the left to get the car straight. Never saw if the stability control or traction control jumped on but I did not feel the car braking as I stabilized it. Not a fun day.

Once you lose the car at an 89 degree spin, only the finger of God can stop it.
Once you tank slap it..enjoy the view.
With training, and you recognize the upcoming loss of control, you can stop the spin at 180d, then whip it 180d, and make it look easy. You see that in NASCAR quite a bit where a lot of spins..are caught and corrected in a few steps that way.
