Things to check right now:
TBF, or crank end play.
TB/WP age and mileage.
Fuel hose condition.
Brake fluid condition.
All of these items have cost a new 928 owner their car in the recent past. For the fuel hoses, and brake fluid I would just do them no matter what, unless you have documentation on them being new in the past 3 years.
Congrats, it looks like a good deal so far. Hope the noisy lifters get better.

It sounds like you didn't get a PPI; I would be nervous too. BUT, sometimes you go with your gut. Don't ignor the big 4 above. $10K into a nice, dependable S4 is a good deal. Good luck.
Thanks guys ...I will be going through her this weekend..yep no records PO had it for 7 years 10k miles and before that just 1 other owner...but no paperwork..that was my fear but...we'll justtake our time and go through..it...would like to drive her to the ALMS event up at Road America and have my bro drive his 944S2..want to get stuff done first...Thanks again and will keep you posted
I had good luck asking the local Porsche dealer where the car's owner lived if they had records on the VIN. They ran off pages of repair records ( minus owner info and cost of repairs) for me. Might be a way to find records you don't have.
Nice car...my 89 is Slate Gray metallic and Cashmere / black interior.

Change the fluids soon. Transmission & power steering use Dexron - I would use Dexron VI. Brake fluid - I like Castrol LMA for casual street use. Flush the cooling system - best choice is Zerex G05. They can be a little tough to get all of the air out of the system - search this forum for help. Oil choice is more religion than science, but 20w-50 is the viscosity of choice.
Get the Morehouse CD set ASAP.
Understand the timing belt system - if it fails, you just spent some big bucks.
Understand TBF (Thrust Bearing Failure) - another check to make ASAP.
On all of these, use the advanced search option above, being sure to check only the 928 Forum.
Go to http://www.nichols.nu/tips.htm and do some serious reading. Go to the other 928 web sites - the more you read, the cheaper and more fun your experiences will be...
Congratulations, and welcome.

Car home for a full day one thing found out...when I unlock the door the rear-hatch motor sounds like it keeps trying to unlock the hatch? for about 10 minutes then it stops even after I start the car and drive?
Windows work fine but again sunroof doesn't open although I hear that motor turning as well...anyone else have this issue...Thanks
Did take the car for about a 40 min highway drive car feels great went a tad above 85
small shake..I will have wheels and suspension checked and re-balanced since it sat for so long.
Pete

Your hatch problem sounds like the motor brake is failed, so it overruns to the contacts an cycles repeatedly.
