Putting on a new O2 sensor, hopefully that will help. I get nervous flutters in my belly when smog test time rolls around.

Make sure the cat's are good and hot for the test. Don't just leave the driveway and pull into the shop: drive it for a bit to get them up to temp.
There is stuff you can pour into the gas to help you pass smog but I have not tried any of them. Anyone else tried them?

Years ago when they first started smoging vehicles, friend of mine was able to get an old Chevy Suburban to pass by stuffing the muffler with sponges.
Thankfully they didn't rev it very high during the test.

I am picturing a flaming sponge coming flying out the tailpipe. That would be great!
Here in CA they actually do a rolling road test, where they put your car on a dyno of sorts and test at 15 and 25 mph.

If you fail you can try this, worked for me on several old dirty rotary engines. On a quarter tank drop in 1L off methyl alcohol (camping alcohol), drive to your test, pass and then go to the nearest gas station to fill up and dilute. It basically increases your fuel burn temp slightly and decreases your nasty hydrocarbons and co.

Obviously not good to do all the time, but good in a pinch if you can't pass.
No need to stress.
But + 1 for getting the cats hot.

I replaced O2 sensor since then; I think it's my stupid Autothority chips.
Good luck,
