I would like to have a warning system for low oil level while driving. The factory system only warns when shutting down or starting up. I could run my S4 dry driving 200 km/h for a longer time without getting a warning.

You do, it's called a low oil pressure warning light.

I ran my car for 13 hours at 200+kph, about 2 weeks ago. Didn't use a single drop of oil!
Isn't it a bit too late once the low pressure warning light comes on?

If your spinning at high RPM then yes. But if you watch the guage and see the pressure is slightly low, you may catch it before serious damage is done.

Not a single drop of oil? We're in pursuit of finding out which cars have a restricter orifice in the PS rear cam cover elbow when you get some time can you check on yours and let us know. Also what are the last 4 digits of your VIN?

For details see > Modified breather design as seen at OCIC < post #28

Thanks

Just had to check it again, it's about 1mm below where it was but it's a cold engine. When I did the oil change just before I went on the drive across the desert, I filled it up, ran it and noted the oil level for that very purpose.
This was in the S4 though, the GTS is still being pampered before I take it for a drive. I think the key is to use a thicker oil (more weight) so that it doesn't vaporize as easily?
I'm running 20W50 racing oil, with an extra can of STP bringing up the weight just a few numbers more.
I'll report back on my findings with the GTS and the thicker oil once i've ran her for a couple of hundred kms.
The last 4 digitis from the GTS VIN is: 0481
So I assume that's quite an early one?

GTS will burn MORE oil than S4 or OB......much more sometimes....

However it is highly dependent on driving style.....if you are pushing hard near redline for extended periods of time it will burn quite a bit.....in street driving at under 6k not as much.......of course this is general terms, its quite possible an early 93 might burn much more even when driven lightly....
