Ignition switch assembly fell apart

Looking to see how to put the ignition switch back together while on the road.
We are returning from OCIC in Wichita, stopped for a bite to eat and came out to the car to find the ignition key did not do anything. After noticing that the key turned too easily I raised the steering wheel/pod and reach around underneath to find that the electrical switch portion had disconnected from the key lock section and is now in two pieces. Turned out that the screw driver that porsche supplies in the tool kit fits just fine into metal switch and I could start the car, shut it off and have it run just fine.
At this point I would like to be able to shove the switch assembly back onto the key lock and have it all work the way it should for the rest of the ride home. Anyone know if this is possible?
I researched the posts on here for switch replacement and all seem to suggest that I would need to remove the pod to do that, but in this case I was hoping to hear that I could just shove the piece back in and it would twist lock in place or some other simple on the road solution.
Any thoughts?

It's held in place by two small scews. Hard to get to without pod removale or at least some lifting on it. I would think that the screws would have fallen to the floor, most likely place to look would be around the mat. GL

My mechanic changed my electrical part of the switch without removing the pod, he losen the glove box, the center console and on his back and installed a new one for me last month. Wasn't easy but did it.

If it fell apart more than likley an aftermarket one which most vendors no longer sell due to this very problem.
Make sure you buy a Porsche one.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Had a few glasses of wine and it has cooled off enough that I went back out and looked. Right on about the screws on the floor, or at least one screw on the floor.
Looks like we will do the odometer, clean the various instrument connections, add LED dash lights and fix the ignition switch when we get back. Thanks all for the help with this.
