For argument's sake-buy a 2012 Acura TSX or lease one (chose a car with good resale value). Assume you are financing and driving 12,000 miles/year.
If you buy it new today in NY with tax and incentives you are looking at $32800 with tax, tags, title, delivery.
With 0% Interest for 5 years (never offered) it's $546/month. Then there is maintenance, gas, out of warranty repairs (last year).
At 1.99% Financing (readily available) it's about $574/month.
Lease for 3 years, $380/month. You are out $13680 plus gas and maintenance. Warranty is still good.
After 5 years your car is worth $10K trade-in in average condition (which is what most cars are after 5 years) and $12K trade-in in good condition. Unless you garage and wash, detail and keep a spotless interior your car will not be excellent. The dealer will sell the same car for $15-17K.
So you've spent 34,400 plus non-warranty if you financed. You will get back $10-15,000. You are out $20-25,000 over 5 years (assuming 1.99% financing).
That means you spent $4000/year just in payments per year if you get $15K, $5000/year just in payments if you get $10K for the car.
That $13680 cost you $4560 per year. You are right in the middle.
For years 0-3 your out of warranty costs are $0. You probably will not need more than 6 oil changes and tire rotations. Assume no brakes (although Acura's in the Northeast can eat brakes) or tires.
Year 4-5 there is a good chance you'll need brakes and tires. Also you will have to change brake fluid at year 3. DIY-no problem. But tires are still going to run $500-800. Brakes $200-600 (DIY vs. Dealer). Your costs just went up $100-300/year for those next 2 years assuming nothing out of warranty happens.
So really what is the cost for the car buying vs. leasing? No real difference. You end up in the same spot. I did not factor in insurance, renewal of registration or inspection as you'd have those fees on your next car either way if you leased.
Now if you keep the car longer than 5 years the maintenance can pile up as can out of warranty expenses.
And by that time you may have some value in the car, you may not.
Even with my 928, I know whatever I put in I probably will never get back. If I am lucky, after 5 years of ownership and upkeep I might have a car worth what I paid for it.
I doubt it will be worth what I put into it.

Getting things back on track, did anyone see the news about Hertz putting the V6 Panamera in the prestige fleet? Maybe you should go rent one and live with one for a day (or two) and see how the V6 treats you.
Personally I really like the Panamera and sure the V6 is down on power but the fuel consumption is a little better (though not really that much).
It depends on what you are looking for. If you want brute power in a 4 seat hatchback then just go buy a CTS-V Wagon
Me, I would take the Panamera!

What about a used Mercedes S63?
Other nice sedans to look at are the Maserati Quattroporte and the Audi S8.

You will love it should you decide to get it!
I have seen only one common issue with the Panamera. If you leave the wing up consistently, and park the car under trees, debris will plug the drain hole and eventually water will get into the rear of the car. Other than that avoidable issue, they are very reliable and also low maintenance, sans the Turbo model. The turbo has the same reliability however maintenance costs are higher.
As for leasing vs purchase, there is no one rule. Everyone has a different situation and in many many cases, leasing is the smarter money for that individual. To say people who lease their car "can't afford to buy it" is freaking retarded. I have leased cars to billionaires who could BUY our entire inventory and Dave Ramsey. But hey, I'm sure it helps sell books. According to him, you should never buy new or finance, He even has a plan where you can drive cars for FREE
I find it interesting that the word "underpowered" comes up considering the base Panamera has a 6 second 0-60. Panamera 4 has a 5.8
That is the same as an 1988 S4 5-SPEED

Hmm.. my ego says if you get a V6 Panamera and its not for your wife you need to turn in the man card. Go Big Turbo V8 or stay home
[Joking with you man, Panamera is the luz! I love watching them on the highway, and they usually give the ole 928 the thumbs up, unlike those snobby 911 owners.. ]
If I could afford to pull the trigger on one It would definitely be the Turbo ..
Bwaaaaa!

Wouldn't you know it. There is a puddle in the driveway today. Power steering fluid. Towed in to dealer. RACK! Crap!!! $2,800 bucks for rebuilt! Double Crap! Now I'm stuck with no car to trade in at the porsche dealer. I think I'm gonna loose the Panny demo lease deal. They only have one available. Maybe it's fate telling me not to get the Panamera? I know in my heart that the 6 is too slow. My wife has a new Toureg 6 and it's a really nice SUV but the engine is a bore. I'd hate to be driving a Porsche that looks fast and isn't. i really like v8 power. That's why I own a 928. It's not just zero to sixty....it really comes down to torque. I LOVE TORQUE.

Sweet--
The dealer will probably sell or lease you a/the Pano for the same price without your 928 trade. Try it. The 928 is not a car they are willing to market themselves, especially if they have to warranty it with all the extra features you've added. So it would go for relative pennies at auction. Dealers always try to hurry you with a "last one at this price" claim. There are plenty more like it, trust me.
Do what feels right in your heart.

There is a lease special money factor on them and it doesn't have to be a demo.

Mike-PM or email me after you get the Merc in order. As I said, my next door neighbor works for the #1, 2 & 3 largest Maserati & Ferrari dealers. He always has good Panamera's and other cars around and might have some greater access to Porsches sooner than later (fingers crossed!) He also might be able to help get the Merc sorted. No promises but happy to put you in touch with each other.
