Thanks Paul, It's going to take a bit long until I have time to go with it. Some weeks ago I had the instrument cluster on my knees for other purposes, and turn the needle by hand to check that the needle could travel the whole angle without getting stuck.

I did it because Dwayne comment on his write up that his needle didn't turn all the way up and fix it at the gauge by turning manually to the full position with the plastic wheel at the center of the needle.

Later, with the gauge already in the car I test the needle as in the video I posted some posts before. I just remove the carpet, black plastic cover and the three wires to the sender. With them free, I turn the key to the pre-crank position and bridge feed(brown+black in my '80, magenta at dwynes '84) with ground. and saw the needle go to full. That's a good first check you could do I think. If it goes up to top without problems I suppose the problem should be the sender not at the cluster. (if you bridge the other two wires, yellow to brown, I suppose that the empty fuel light should go on, I forgot to check).

As I say, I'm a bit busy now and my project will have to wait. Anyway, feel free to use this thread to post any progress and pics on yours. Sure they will help you around here, and when I start the cleaning on mine I will have much more info to use.
