Default Passenger side airbag delete

Couldn't find much useful info in archives. One local GTS owner wants to delete passenger side airbag so that he can put rear facing child seat into front seat. On newer cars this is fairly easily doable but has anyone done it in 928? There will obviously be error in dash unless some resistor(s) is used in connector to fool error diagnostics. Will some later MY part work directly? 928 612 220 00 might be used but I think it deletes also drivers bag.

Mine only has a drivers side one .. so it can be done. The wiring diagram shows the LHD passenger air bag and other LHD only connections that I assume would just not be present in the RHD car; and so it would seem likely that their removal would convert the LHD two airbag to the RHD driver side only system. I'm not seeing anything in the diagram which is substituting LHD airbag components, with a resistor or bridge, where not present in RHD configuration.

Seems like a better solution would be a DPDT switch so the airbag could be disabled or enabled (rather than removing it). The switch would route the two conductors of the airbag cable (accessible from underneath after removing the glove box) either to the airbag or to the dummy resistor (no idea of the value).

Alternately, a 3PDT switch could add a light somewhere to indicate that the airbag is disabled.

There is separate '93-95 MY control unit for RHD cars. It could be possibly used instead of LHD box to make sure there will not be warning in dash. Same result can be achieved by fooling LHD to think bag is still there.

I think he wants bag completely gone until kid is old enough to face forward and go to back seat. AFAIK 2.8Ohm 0.5W resistor in place of bag makes control box think bag is still there and not raise error. In passenger side this probably means there need to be separate resistor for each of the two gas generators. At least they are wired separately and are probably same is single charge on steering wheel.

We are basically looking for factory resistor setup which takes care of the error situation caused by missing bag. Not doing anything other than removing bag is not an option as I think drivers side bag will not be active either when other side gives error. Seems there is no easy and cheap factory solution to do this. Couple of resistors are cheap so really no point in trying to find RHD control box 945 618 217 00 to try it and see if it works in LHD wiring.

On my 93 GTS (late 92 build date) I deleted the driver side air bag. I installed a 3 OHM resistor in the connector to the now gone air bag and never get a message or air bag fault light. The air bag controller thinks the driver side air bag is still there so I assume the passenger side air bag is still functional. I don't see any reason why this couldn't be done to the OP's passenger side air bag.

We did delete last night and installed 3.2 Ohm resistors to both explosive charge wires. No errors at dash so seems to work fine.
