My next door neighbor painted his rusty van next to my 88 S4
Hey guys,
This morning I went to my car and saw a bunch of Rustolium spray paint cans seating behind the neighbors van. Apparently he decided to paint the roof of his car and the front with spray cans. My car was parked right next to it (I live in apartments) and my whole car on both sides is covered in paint dust. All the glasses, panels, window seals, headlights, tail lights. He didn't bother to cover anything. Anyways I took the car to car wash and washed it. The paint is not coming off. I used some WD-40 in a small area and that seems to work well. But is WD-40 harmful for paint. Does any one know of a good cleaner to take this over spray off without removing some of my own paint. He used Aluminum silver paint on his van.
My car is guards red, most of it is the original single stage paint, some of the rear panels have clear coat on them. I don't want to clay bar it because someone did it before me and the paint is already tin in some areas.

this happened to me once. Not sure about wd-40, but regardless he should pay for professional restoration. take a ton of photos as well in case you have to go to court over it.

You may need a respray...at his cost...if he has renter's go after that policy if he doesn't take care of it. Then go for his automobile insurance. Let them sort it all out. And if you have a homeowner's association/renter's association call them as well.
Last resort is calling your insurance company-although this is a comprehensive coverage claim if you do have coverage...

He is old, close to 70 with no job probably. I don't like wasting my time dealing with stupid people. Its easier to deal with it myself, my car is not a nice example cosmetically.

Had similar situation, wife was painting lawn furniture with Krylon spray paint, and wind shifted and covered 928, BMW X 5 and a Saab. Used automotive clay ( I think it was Meguairs) and took all of it off. Took about a weekend a car to get everything off , body, glass, etc.

Your best bet is to clay bar the car. Once, I had a black Eclipse GSX parked near a business. They decided to spray paint their fence with silver paint using a pneumatic spray gun. The car was covered in silver over spray. We ended up filing an insurance claim against the business doing the painting. I think we just pocketed the cash, and we clay bared the car. We took pictures of them while they were painting for evidence.

Should take care of it..and a FRIENDLY chat with him to 'splain the issue should be done, plus a POLITE letter to him & his landlord (bet he cant be doing that there) saying you'll be suing both of them if it doesn't come off.
Pictures with the cans out, etc..would have helped a lot if you got any if court is the final option.

If he has no $, thats fine, property owner does..its _his_ tennant.
Besides..let him know if he wants to do that more..youre mostly OK with it..just arrange a time to be gone..in garage, etc.

LIGHTLY wipe with a cloth and a small amount of lacquer thinner. See if it will not take just the newer paint off ( its not held on with proper primer or prep work ) ....too much and you may take YOUR paint off.

The joys of apartment living.
Worst case scenario here is a simple machine polish by a detailer.
Not a big deal.

Pro detailers for the win here. I am amazed at their products and skill. I thought I knew what I was doing, now I'll likely never use anything you can buy in Autozone ever again.

The thinner won't damage any proper paint, it might damage any bodgy though, I would happliy wipe my car over without any qualms or worries as I know the quality of the paint. Any other method will take more than double the effort.
