WOW! That is a little bit of change! I didn't pay nearly that for the Conti's that are on it, and they are WAAAAYY more tire than the Dunlops that they replaced!!

Trading notes on tire wear might be interesting. I've had a set of Dunlop Direzzas on for over a year, and about 10,000 miles, and they look pretty much new still. It helps that the 265 rears are so grippy when new that I can't spin them most of the time. I call them "poor man's traction control." No need for LSD with these tires, until they get old and slippery.

I think the P7s were all that were available in 16 rims at the time the 928 first came out.

I only have 2000 miles on my Conti's, but I expected to see SOME wear on the back from overindulgence with the loud pedal....but the front and backs all look absolutely brand new. I am really happy with these tires so far.

I would be VERY VERY surprised and dismayed if rotating radials (such that they turned the other way), even uni-directional ones, if they exploded or disintegrated in any way. That would be an easy mistake to make, and if it produced such a danger (exploding) I doubt they would be allowed to be sold. Maybe they would not handle the same as before, but I wouldnt expect much worse. I would bet that I have had all the wheels off my 928 and not worried about where they went back on. The Bridgestone Re050A 18" on my Suby GT are not directional, and I rotate them (all 5 rims) every 5k miles. The difference, if any, is pretty much imperceptible. The first set lasted 75k kms, and at $400+ each, I am going to keep doing it.

As I mentioned in a earlier note, after I wore out my first Dunlops (before any rotation moves) I eventually purchased my Goodyears through Sam (like Walton) and had to take somewhat different sizes (largely whatever I could get that came close). My alignment was a little bogus and after a year or so I noticed wear on one side of each front tire. Being a tightwad and on social security and aerospace pension I put the left side on the right and vice versa, figuring I'd at least give it a try. As everyone who has read one of my notes knows, I'm kinda an old coot and don't drive over the speed limits. I didn't notice any wandering or anything like that. However, I just replaced all four tires with new directional Dunlops and am quite amazed at the improvement in handling. On these twisty Rocky Mountain roads, it really showed up.

I had this problem with some non directional continentals some time back - the 80s. They came off a used car and we put them on a customer's car. In a short while they started to go one by one. The tires just fragmented. They were almost new

Now maybe today this cannot happen.
