Door pin switches

Door pin switches
Is it reasonable to try and clean the contacts on the door pin switches, or just replace them?
I was sitting in the drivers seat with door open fiddling with the interior lights, and when switched by the door being open the lights were dimmer, so I am thinking pin switches, but mine actually look like they have been replaced.
Pin switch grounds when the door is open? Thinking I can't blame a .75 amp drain on them then.

Is this on your '84 euro? If so, the pax side switch wire lead is too short and rubs thru where it passes thru the hole in the chassis. I'd suggest targeting there first. It's right above the LH brain.
You could try wiggling the wire there to so if it causes irratic behavior.

I've also noticed that the interior lights are dimmer when switched by the doors being opened than when they are manually switched on, but I hadn't considered why. I don't think it's the pin switch, which grounds when the door is open.
It's not a complex part; unscrew it (11mm socket) and inspect.

Cleaning them -- This is one of the first things I do on a rescue, after celebratory beverage. Solves drain issues, some alarm issues, interior light problems and window operation issues. (Euro 84, ignition off -- windows switches are only hot when 1 door is open / if switches are bad, windows are always hot)
Remove, cut the wire, disassemble the switch (use vice to hold, pry appart the crimp -- it will recrimp) , polish with dremel wire brush, resolder and reassemble, polish the body "threads", install.
You can also buy them new.
Clipping the wire and then extending it a bit using a good crimp or crimp-solder is the key.
