Parasitic Electrical Leak
#16
Bruce - interesting about the glove box light, I found a light just above the C/E panel, it wasn't connected properly, so I fixed it and the light works. However, can't figure how to shut it off. No switch and closed doors don't extinguish it.
Dave, thanks for that note. I've already pulled all fuses and have come up with 300 mA on the #25 fuse and 100 mA on the #18 fuse (windows). That still leaves about 80 mA unaccounted for. I think I'll try yr method to detect if any fusing in the panel.
Wally, I removed the red cables from the pos terminal, disconnected the jump start cables (and insulated them) and checked the draw and came up w/ 0.0 mA. I expect this was the number we were looking for.
Thanks for the suggestions, All, I Haven't found the 'leak' yet but have a couple of other ideas that will have to wait until next week-end. As much as spending the last 2 afternoons pulling stuff apart w/o much success, has been a disappointment, I do have a better understanding of the car, have found other areas in need of maintenance and continue to appreciate the scope of knowledge that this group has.
Thank you

928 Battery Cut Off Switch into the hatch?
Anyone have any suggestions for a battery cut off switch that is accessible from the rear hatch? I need one that extends into the hatch as its too much trouble to remove the carpet, spare tire, open the battery cover and then turn the cut off switch I have on there now. I'd like a extended wire connection set up - not a blue tooth/key chain set up. I've tried a couple of cut off switches on Amazon but haven't been able to get a extended wire + cut off switch right.
On amazon for $6 this one(or the red one) works. First check if there is room for the 3+ inches as in my 1991 GT the battery compartment was too snug. And I don't to have to remove the spare to get at this each weekend/monthly storage interval.

The factory anchor works fine remove the tool kit and remove the bolt use the wrench from the tool kit ,
make an isolator cover for the ground strap
leave the spare tire alone
Note in my experience many aftermarket battery cut offs only create complications and connectivity problems this in turn will usually lead to alternator damage and or computer damage from spikes in the system
Note make sure the battery hold down is installed so the hot terminal doesn’t jump up into the bottom of the battery box cover
And the hot terminal cover is installed over the terminal

I agree with this but the only difference is that on all of my sharks I replaced the ground strap nut with a wing nut, so that it is fast and easy to unscrew and pop off. Some already use a wing nut.

Battery cut off switch outside in the hatch area with extending wires
Thanks Gentlemen. Is there a cut off switch solution ? Please see below
I'm trying to rig up something with extension wires from the battery, around the battery cover, then around/thru the spare tire, then around the hatch carpet so I can just lift the hatch and cut the battery off during long term storage

Dear sir I dont understand,
maybe you can help me.
Please post a picture of your ground strap termination point.
My suggestion to not put another power cutoff device into the car has merit,
as I have found atleast 6 machines with some sort of failed electrical system issue,
due to owners adding these cut off devices.
In all cases the wire attachment points were loose.
Note this is the quickest way to kill the car
Now are you aware that there is a way to disconnect the battery power from the car electric system?
If yes, please remove the tool tray,
and then undo the ground strap attachment bolt ,
this will isolate the battery,
so you dont have to open the battery box.
You attach your jumper leads to the battery terminals,
and have the plug under the tool tray.
make sure to isolate the wire as it passes through the battery cover
