Wow.....that's beautiful!!!!
About how long are the intake runners? Any chance you have a closer up look at those?
Wait a minute....I thought some "guru" said you couldn't make over 400rwhp with a 16V engine??
Any idea what the camshaft spec is???
Nice work, I cannot wait to see how this progresses.

AWIC tank solution
As FYI... In it's prime this engine put down 585 whp and 615+ lb.-ft. of torque on a Dynojet 248C. Power-wise in 1998, the car was ready for its Nevada ORR dash, but fuel capacity at the engine's BFSC challenged us with how to carry enough fuel as well as water / air intercooler heat exchange with the outside air for the cooling water. The larger Whipple also presented a real estate problem with the water bridge, something that Sean has already corrected.
One annoyance / problem now is that all this tuning work was done in the summer of 1998 and very few digital records were kept as floppy disks were still in use (later lost) and ECU programming was DOS based.
As Sean continues to work out the kinks of this setup and the effects from the car's poor storage for so many years, I am sure the HP / torque numbers will rise to where they once were.

I have built a tank that can feed this beast on the ORR events if you guys are interested. My design is similar, but uses more efficient intercooling.. Anyway, just my 0.02 There are pictures of it on rennlist..
Best,

wow what a build.....was that ever posted on rennlist or just secret stuff no one knew about????that cold air intake from the cowl is what I would love to do...do you have any pics you could post for us who cant figure stuff out???
pics would be great!!!!

One more thing, the blower looks very much an Opcon unit, and not a whipple,, from the size it seems to be an MX 422 or 420 maybe even a 417 with a vented snout.. I remember speaking to Marc from Devek about this car when I wanted to do my project a hundred years ago at Devek days... Hmmm, seems the mystery beast actually lives, and is not an impossibility after all..!!
Sean,
Cool stuff.. Good luck with the car!!
Which Motec are you using? I have an M8 for my setup..
Thanks,
Richard

I recall it being a custom ordered Whipple 2.9L unit....apparantly there was some issues with the stock units flow....so this one was modified to better suit the engine. Jim Morton has more details as he was involved in the original build.
I also think its an M8....the car was build in the late 90's by Richard Hatfield....Sean acquired it early last year......

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the note.. I am pretty sure it is an Opcon unit from the snout, and front bearing case from what I see. (I used to be an Opcon dealer) Whipple licensed their production from SRM, which is an Opcon company. I also prefer the Opcon units as the machining tolerances are much better than the other licensed Lysholm brands..
Anyway, it would be great to chat with Sean if he has an M8 setup on the car. The fact that it made 585RWHP proves my point that the motor can do that in supercharged form.
There should be markings on the SC case, and the measurements of certain pieces can tell you what model SC it is..
This is great news! I am much more excited to finish my SC setup now!
Cheers!
