Then go to Ebay and do a search of current and completed sales.
The go to Craigslist (I use AutoTempest to search the country) and pull prices.
Then get documentation of EVERY service done including parts prices since you've owned the car.
Arm yourself with as much pricing info and what you've updated in the car so you have some grounds to establish value when the adjuster comes.
Print and put it in a binder.
Of course he may go to NADA or whoever does Classic Car Prices (I think it may be KBB). Do the same.
Who is the company and is it ACV or Agreed?
Good luck and buy back the car for parts to sell later if it's under $2500 and they can be salvaged...

DITTO + Have as much as you can in the way of maintenance records, receipts, and money spent towards the car. About the only way to get insurance companies to budge from KBB is to show that your car was either not of "market" condition or that it was unique in some way.
Also, do some searching on the web for comparable 928. this is what the Insurance company will look at when you claim that KBB is not an accurate reflection of market.
Sorry for your loss...

It all depends what you have for insurance coverage (details). What type of coverage do you have? I can't count how many times that everyone here has recommended an agreed value policy. Car is history w/ salt water. Sorry to hear that.

No experience of US insurance, but its also worth noting that if you think they're offering less than the car is worth, don't settle. Argue, and use evidence (receipts, comparable cars sold, adverts etc.) as to why its worth more.
The insurance company wants to get out of the contract by paying as little as they can, so often they'll lead with a lowball, as many people just go "oh ok" and sign.

More like $9800 to repair.. actual value of $2500...they'll send you a check for $1500 and call it good... ;-(
Go and get as many "comps" as you can (craigslist, ebay, autotrader, even rennlist) and send them three of the best ones .....they will likely average and give you that minus deductible (and car buyout if you want the car back)..
Good luck...and keep your backside covered...the insurance companies are prone to screw you if you let them..
