Default EIS + front OEM hoses too short? SOLVED!

Sean installed the EIS for me last week during 928 stay over at his place for new clutch and some other items. My tubes fromt the intake by the radiator were just enough too short so as to not stay in the EIS..

Off to AutoZone to see if they had any solutions... Perfect!

The short chrom tube has a compression clamp on it, hard to see in the pic, which fits perfectly on the front most inlet above the radiator. After that it is a simple matter of cutting the black hose into two equal lengths (there is more than enough for both sides of the intake), mark spot to cut hole for the vent, install, tighten hose clamps and done!

AutoZone only had one of the short chrome hoses and clamps so have to wait till they arrive later today to put on the passenger side

Looks pretty nice too!

Question

It's kind of hard to tell from the photos, but do you have the long side of the 90° elbows running front/back? It looks like maybe on your left side (right side of the photos as viewed from the front of the car), the 90° elbow has the long side running side-to-side and the short side running to the front. I suppose that kind of works (makes more room for the throttle quadrant), but then moves that filter box farther back than the other one.

I got the extra space by just barely inserting the pipes into the sleeves on that side far enough to get them under the clamps. Still have the long side of the 90° elbows running front-to-back on both sides.

No idea Ed as Sean put the EIS together and installed it for me while he had it for clutch install. My front OEM hoses were too short by over an inch, shrinkage over the years maybe? All I know is I dont have to worry about the OEM hose disconnecting from the EIS and it looks good IMHO to boot!

The EIS comes with the Mercedes air hoses that fit JUST right.
Happy to have given you a set if they were not with the EIS you bought from Sean.

Umm, really?

I found no hoses, Mercedes or otherwise, in the box with my EIS.

Lacking any assembly documentation, and unable to find any clear pictures (Rennlist search SUCKS) I assumed that I was supposed to cut the OEM ducting to fit into the front of the filter canisters.

Steve,
No assembly instructions apart from description of parts and layout drawing. Assembly is pretty easy. The mercedes hoses are part of the package.
I guess it is possible we left out the mercedes hoses but unusual as we pack the EIS into a special box and no hoses would leave a big hole.
I will email you the drawings so you can make sure everything is OK.

Kenny,
The before picture shows the correct Mercedes air tubes fitted. You look like you were just missing the clamps to hold them into the red connector.
Glad you found a solution - looks like the old set up from my GTS.

Sorry, Roger.

I checked the box several times.

No hoses, no description of parts, and no layout drawing.

I have the EIS in the car, but I am sure I have the elbows in backwards as I have clearance issues on the coolant cap with the elbows one way, and on the throttle quadrant if I put them inthe other way.

I didn't want to install them with one each way to solve the clearance "issue", as the filter canisters would then be in different positions relative to the strut brace, and I thought that would look odd.

Hi Steve,
A pair of Mercedes tubes in the mail today and a layout picture on the email so you can check your installation. Sorry we missed them but IIRC yours was one of the first so we muct have screwed up early on. If you could take a picture of your installation we can check it for you.
Best,
Roger

Not exactly the same as the EIS but the rubbers look to be in the same area under the cross bar.
I used the Spectra 4" to 3 1/2" rubbers with "stock S4 hoses flipped around".
They have more air flow than if using the 4" to 3" rubbers those are alot smaller inside around 2 7/8".Side and front shown with "stock S4 hoses flipped".The stock S4 hoses fit good inside the 3 1/2" rubbers instead of the smaller hoses going inside 3"
which those might be.If they are going into 2 7/8" ID the Mercedes hoses or 3" aftermarket must be smaller inside than stock.

Thank you. That's service above and beyond.

I'll get some pictures on my next "man-cave excursion" this coming weekend.
