IMO rear main seals are a giant PITA, there are multiple types in the replacement-partsosphere:

So you want to make sure you're using the 'right' RMS. And you want to clean the living bejeebus out of the cavity around the crank before installation. See post #28 in the above thread.
Since the stakes of installing it wrong are kinda high, you want to make sure to do the job right the first time. So yes, you can use the old seal, tap in in carefully with a ball pein hammer, etc. But I need as much idiotproofing as possible, and the 9126 tool made installation to the correct depth a non-issue.
