The ignition switch can cause all kinds of problems. It can cause your headlights to not pop up.
I used an old relay base and connected it to a push button. This is good because you can plug it into various relay points and test the rest of the circuit.

Interesting thought. Did you use a standard 4 contact or a 5 changeover type to do this? I might try this.
Still wondering where this brown/yellow strip wire ends up at....
Beat that brown/yellow wire demon today. Feeling pretty good about it,and having celebratory cocktails now!
Turns out to be a loop through the neutral start switch. Cleaned the 3 wire connector in the wheel well again - this time with a torch tip cleaner and contact spray. Success! I've got start with a relay.
Thanks Wally....one of your replys to an old post got me going on the right track.
Now on to the dreaded pod pull. I'm sure I'm in deep here and will be needing lots of handholding, so stay tuned-gonna need lots of help as I don't have a clue whats in there. Bad sign already-the 2 screws that should be 5mm allens have bolt heads and the bottom cover is missing.
There is a switch on the column that detect if the key is in. I think i has brown with yellow strip. Brown with colored strips are generally switched grounds. Brown with white is the interior lights
I replaced mine with another Porsche switch. One position provides power to the headlight relay. When the connection got worn you had to be very careful were the switch was. In my case it turned off the power to the headlight relay while letting other things operate. It causes some very strange behavior and was a little odd to trace down.
I'm still sorting through all my relays to eliminate any problems there. Is there a good cross-reference list somewhere for Porsche relays to Siemens or Bosch?
And I do fear that my problems are somewhere in the pod, but I'll delay that till I can devote an entire day to it. You might have nailed it regarding the ign. switch Dan, as some of my electrics problems seem to change daily. Someone's already been in this pod so I don't know what I'm going to find, wish me luck!
