Default Cost for wheel refinishing

What is the going rate for refinishing wheels these days?
What is the preferred method, powder coating or just painting?
Anybody has any preference of a shop in southern CT?
Lastly the lug nuts, what color should they be silver or black?
Thanks

So I have found 2 places.
WWW.awrswheelrepair.com they come to your house and repair them. They promise like new condition. they are quoting $150 per wheel or $600 for all 4.
The other place is www.elitecoatingsny.com in Plainsview, Long Island. They are charging $125 a wheel with a 24 hr turn around.
Any experience with either company or any other suggestions?
Thanks

I refinished the older Antec wheels on my '90 GT a couple of years ago. It took about two hours of pretty easy work per wheel, and cost less than $5.00 per wheel. Still look fine.

You can do one at a time, so the work can be done at your convenience. Take the wheel off, clean inside and out, sand to remove curb rash, and paint with Duplicolor wheel paint in silver (or your choice of color). I painted the exposed hub surfaces to match at the same time. Be careful to avoid painting the contact surfaces on the wheel or hub.

$20 plus a few easy hours bonding with your 928, or $600 plus the time watching and/or waiting for someone else to do the work...

The answer depends on what the wheels need. If they just need painting and curb rash repaired, do it yourself as suggested (though don't get any paint on your tires! Very difficult to remove).

If the wheels are out of round, bent, badly rashed, dinged, etc, then you'll need to take them to a shop. Since you live in CT, I'm guessing you've hit your share of potholes. Maryland has two of the best wheel shops in the country, and I know people ship their wheels to them: Ye Olde Wheel Shoppe, and Wheel Worx. Depending on the damage/repairs needed, you're looking at anywhere from $50 to $250 per wheel. Transwheel is another good option, but I don't think they deal with retail repairs; they deal with mechanics and dealerships.

Those are typical prices for wheel shops.

If a cleaning and scuffing is all this is needed, you'll just need an etching primer and the period-correct Porsche silver. You could use Wurth products (not cheap, at $30-50/wheel).
Following that, I'd suggest a catalyzed clearcoat for durability. You could check into an local body shop for this as the spray clear all day long.

I just had a set of 996 Hollow Spokes powdercoated for $600. Very minty fresh.

Al Reed here in Anaheim strips, fills chips/roadrash and powder coats for $75 a wheel, if they're straight. Not sure I've ever had a straight set of 4, but straightening is $55 a wheel.

That's a ridiculously good price. I had a local guy who was priced similarly. Unfortunately he's not in business anymore.

Working out my own process now, as I have more than 3 sets of phone dials to refinish.

Al painted the last set of wheels he worked on (Turquoise project car) and the set he did for the Zyclamrot car appear to be painted as well. If you drive like me powder coating is unnecessary as I routinely bump/scrape my wheels. Paint is good for people like me.

I need to have both wheels straightened and repainted on the right side of the Zyc car. Both were low speed bumps, but enough to cause a noticeable vibration at highway speeds.

Anyone know of a good wheel shop in the Phoenix, AZ area?

I'll 2nd AWRS, at least the guys in Richmond to VB region of VA.

I paid $100 for them to straighten a Carrera III wheel (no repaint reqd), and they repaired and refinished my D90s for about $600 for the set delivered. They sent those off to a facility in Indiana. Of course, you can add extra $$ to RDK wheel refresh if you do it right and remove the sensors. You'll need new o-rings, likely all new plastic covers and probably a retaining ring or three... then there's the tools.

I went to these guys on Long Isl. They have agreement with local shops to pick up/deliver there. Maybe worth a call to find out if they go to CT. I had minor curb rash, they polished it out for $125. Did a great job. Only problem is my other 3 rims are not as shiny.

Average around here is $125 a rim. There are many mobile services that will come to your door and fix the rims on the spot.
