Default High Gloss Black Engine Parts

I've seen some cars in the autotrader and on ebay that have black engine plastic parts incredibly glossy. This includes the air box and intake tubes as well as the fan shroud. Are people just shooting clear coats (lacquer, enamel?) over these parts and waxing them?

That's a standard car dealers detail trick...everything gets sprayed with clear paint....when it wears off it looks even worse than before..

Lovely. Thank God that is something I choose NOT to do.

Those poor cars.

There's a common dressing that's very shiny, almost like tire sidewalk dressing that's used & easily washed off.

I've never seen a "clear coated" engine bay as described above.

Aerospace 303....seems to highly praised.

I get mine at Amazon. Sometimes the bottle even arrives undamaged.

Yikes. So much for buying a case of synthetic oil through Amazone if they are going to smash it around.

There is a plastic paint that works well. Home Depot or Orchard Supply. For the mat look try SEM plastic paint.
