I am going through the same problems you are currently. Did you jumper 3-way at the fuel injection relay outlet, as well as 2-jumper the fuel pump..then try to start it?

I understand the fuel pump is triggered through a signal to the L-jet unit. Ignition switch perhaps not sending the signal through 15 port I believe. The pump may run when testing it but the computer needs that signal to keep it running

Things I were going to check in a couple of days...

The car now starts up everytime and stays on, but runs like utter crap since my AFM is not connected. With the AFM connected, it will not start. I haven't tried running it with jumpers in those two relays, but at this point, I pretty much know it's getting fuel well enough to stay on. I plan on replacing those relays regardless, even though my current ones seem to be working fine.

I'm not sure if our cars signal the same way since I have an LH-Jet vs your L-Jet, but your post has reminded me to replace those relays, and out of curiousity, I will run the car with them jumpered tomorrow to see how it behaves. Thanks!

So your car won't run with the AFM connected, will run with AFM disconnected, and you want to replace relays that you know are good?

Yeah mine runs with the AFM disconnected...like crap as well so something in the LH or LJet system is preventing the injectors to fire after the cold start valve. Hence I was thinking faulty relays. My car ran perfect until overnight she decided she doesn't want to start. I don't like guessing and parts changing to no avail. Been hot as heck here..took a couple of days off to re-assess and this weekend I will try again troubleshooting

The hose in the AFM never works for me, and I have a known working replacement AFM unit.

What hose? You're talking about your barn door, right? The black box between your filter box and your intake hole, right?

There is no hose on the AFM. Now I think you may be referring to something else.

I know..I was referring to sticking a hose to open the barn-door to introduce a signal to the computer

from all accounts and searching I assumed if you can stick a hose in the barn-door, and it runs it is a massive vacuum leak

For some reason I'm thinking it's possible to install the AFM connector backwards if it's broken?

That's good. My 82's connector had been worked on as well as the AFM by a PO.

I figure new relays are better than working 28 yr old ones

Maybe. The new relays I bought fell apart in my hands. An old relay may not flow as much current as required, but a working relay is a working relay. Store your originals in the glovebox, you may need them.

I wonder if your AFM's calibration dial on its armature has been tampered with.

I will be full one diagnosing based on Maleficio and Landseer's suggestions..I know it is something simple, and a pain to run from one point to another before you resist and start purchasing parts for a fix,

It has to be a simple fix, based on understanding the Jetronic system (I have been reading and reading)
