Feeler post for parting out my 88 S4.
I am debating parting out my car and want to gauge interest in the parts. The amount of interest will definitely factor in the decision to part it or let it sit until I can fix it. A few of the parts and my initial pricing:
Engine 131k miles, 99% sure has cracked head on passenger side, but might just be the valve cover gasket. Compression test still shows 180-200 on every cylinder. Has Porkensioner w/20k miles on it and FOTE 19lb injectors with 3k miles on them. $1500
5-speed transmission with LSD G28/13/12. Shifts fine other than being a little notchy shifting into 3rd under higher rpm's. $1500
Full power seats (grey) with heaters and lumbar. Heaters not working. Driver's side has an area about the size of a dollar bill that needs repaired. $300 for front, $200 for rear.
MAF, rebuilt 3k miles ago. $200
LH, rebuilt 3k miles ago, $300
EZK, $150
Windshield, a couple years old. $250
I have a complete part list with prices, but just wanting to gauge the initial interest.

Brett,
I might be interested in the engine for my white car project since I have two extra sets of heads. What are the symtoms and what makes you think it has a crack?

Also, hopefully my pricing is reasonable, it's kind of a crap shoot for me. If you think what I am asking for something is grossly overpriced, challenge me on it, but please no lowballing.

I would be interested in foglamps, oil cooler lines and windshield if i could get it shipped here without breaking the bank. If you end up parting the engine let me know.

Second on the transmission and the clutch mounting plate in the firewall. Not to pile on here I also have a complete S4 that I am parting out. Dark gray interior - everything good but the typical small cracks in the pod and dash. Three engines in different conditions.
I would be interested in the windshield if it has the antenna - although you are so far away and shipping would be a problem.

I hadn't offered it up as an entire vehicle, figured it was worth quite a bit more in pieces at this point.
As far as the price of the transmission, I just took a SWAG at what to ask for it and certainly wouldn't mind if somebody felt compelled to pay more for it, but the price is already out there.
I should know definitely in a few days if I will be parting it out and will post a complete price list after that, and, as I said, will honor requests in the order they came in as best as I can.

What makes you think the head is cracked ?
Coolant leaking into the oil and vice versa ??? But no pressurised coolant from a cracked head into the combustion chamber ? And only slow loss of coolant into the oil ?
I assume you've checked that the rad is not leaking between the oil cooler and coolant part ?
If these symptoms sound right you probably do have a cracked head but but but on an 88 it is likely to be a crack between the head bolts. This crack typically links the water jacket around the cylinders with the huge void around the camshafts allowing slow passage of oil into the coolant (when engine is cooling and less slow passage of coolant into the oil when coolant is hot and pressursied .
If my description of the symptoms is close I would advise you to try some block repair liquid that you add to the coolant. (Kinda like Barrs on steroids) I had this on my 88SE 8 years ago, and as a short term fix used block repair stuff . 8 years and 40,000 miles later, the set of spare heads are still on the shelf awaiting the engine rebuild . In the interim the SE has been up to the rev limiter in 5th on the Autobahn twice, been around the ring a few times, been a daily driver for a couple of years and still doesn't leak coolant into the oil, or oil into the coolant.
I hope that my guess at your symptoms may be close and could possibly save you having to part out your 928.
Apologies to those seeking rich pickings.
