Does anyone think they can't duplicate what these vendors are selling for over $80, with less than $5 of sheet metal from the local hardware store or HomeDepot?
No, unless you have laser cutter or water jet... and a press break. Oh yeah, and if your labor and cost to keep it all going is free.
It's not cheap to supply a low volume niche market with specialized product.
It is however, much easier to over-simplify.

I have sold many of the Jager arm rest brackets, and don't recall any negative comment on them, ever. Their cost, including shipping, is about half of the other option.

Nicole,

Absolutely no slight of your product intended. I will clarify the post. To be clear I have not insatlled the set sold by Nicole. In my case I had cracked plastic mid way dowwn the arm rest and based on pictures alone elected for a full lenght solution.

I bought my inserts two years ago (from Roger) but I have misplaced the instructions and
hard ware. Fortunately I still have the inserts.

Getting ready to insert them.

Does anyone have a copy of the instructions they can scan?
List of parts?

thanks,

Mike

Looks like they are all the same now...?

I installed these on both doors - I would not make my own. These are very well done and match perfectly - the little curved arm needs a bit of adjustment - but that's easy - the other angles and fit are spot on.

You'd waste a whole lot of time trying to make something that fits this good, and then making the mirror image for the other side.

I glued and added a few extra self tapping screws - but it wasn't really needed

Solid as a rock

Probably the dumbest question ever, but does anyone sell just the driver's side plate?

Both of mine busted at a similar time - I'd just do both anyway. Old brittle plastic, previous removals & over torqued reinstallations => early death...

One note - these kits don't address the attachment points that bolt to the door at the top forward end in the air supply plenum. This frequently cracks also. I repaired/reinforced mine with a large fender washer and lots of packed JB weld underneath the washer and around the perimeter on the top side - then use slightly longer attachment bolts there.

I also did a few more reinforcements - where they wouldn't be visible- I did ultimately file down the sharp bits before reinstallation.

Little late, but just buy the set. Eventually you'll need to do both. You might as well do both anyways because they really are good. Easy to install also. I got mine from Classic9leather shop. They might all be the same.

Did the door arm rest change sizes from year to year? I have a 1980 928. I wouldn't imagine they changed the door arm rest and the kit doesn't specify different sizes either?
