I was surprised to see the Minnesota North Shore on the list. It's a pretty drive, to be sure. Pretty obscure, though. Best part: if you hit a deer, bear or moose the Highway Patrol will tag it for you so you can keep it.

It's a very suspect list. Probably various chambers of commerce pay to make their way on it. The reason I say this is because any list like that which does no include the Beartooth Highway out of Red Lodge MT down to Cook City at Yellowstone's NE entrance isn't a legit list - the late Charles Karualt ranked it as the number one road in the country, and I think it is certainly a top 10. Another one is the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park. Indescribable beauty. Mind boggling how these roads don't make that list.

Lists are built by people who drive the roads, and few have the luxury of driving every road on every "list". So it's hard to get a good global perpective.

-- I like the Cali PCH (Highway 1) drive, but the section they mention from Morro Bay to Monterey is plugged with gawkers and tourists in motor homes. Scenic to be sure, but can be quite slow. Drivers seem to be blind to turnouts, passing can be very risky since slow cars pull out blindly to pass slower cars. Meanwhile. the sections north of San Francisco don't include Big Sur or Morro rock, but they are much more challenging driver's roads with better overall scenery.

-- As intersesting as the Florida Keys drive is, the scenery doesn't change much and the path is hardy a driving challenge.

-- I've driven parts of the Seward highway, and my memory is more of under-maintained/barely-improved road surfaces with long distances between fuel and services. Lots of mountain scenery though, and an abundance of wildlife along the way.

-- The BRP drive is amazing for the scenery but is also a tourist slog. Get out at summer sunrise and for an hour or so you have a good chance of avoiding tourist 'delays'. Enforcement deserves some serious detection and ECM efforts.

Maybe we need to start a "favorite drives - Don't post without video!" thread with links to users' drive video.
