Default 82 928 project discussions

Hi all Found this 82 928 near me I had the images saved in my folder as 82 928S but not sure what would make it an "s" if it is. It looks like a lot of work but it runs . I can pick it up for a fair price with NC title. Have been parting some 944 cars and know my market(s) with parting them. Thought it may be fun to put on the road. It has a 5 speed trans.. The main issues I see are the bad dash, seats and the car needs a rear bumper cover and tail lights, probably the tail light housings as well. The car has a new exhaust.

This car was parked at the previous owners home and a grass fire came up on it almost burned it up. As you can see the rear section got pretty hot. The rear hatch is probably Okay I would expect it may need some new parts and seal replacement along its lower edges.

I really don't need this project but ran across it thinking I could break it or throw some $ at it to do the rear bumper maybe strip the interior more racer style at least at first. Not sure on the interior
Can anyone chime in with the Pros and cons of the 82 vintage of the 928. If anyone knows where some bits to put it back together may be found and or if its parted what chunks will pull my investment back out. The 944 cars part down to a empty shell pretty easy with the SPEC racers and newbie’s picking the cars up cheap It seems this may be more of a pain to part as quickly if it goes that way.

I threw a few images up but have 19 shots loaded in this photo bucket album.

I love a good save, and I love me some 82 5 speeds, but I can't see making any sense out of spending he money it would take to make this nice. It would be much cheaper, IMHO, to start with a car that needs less.

Default all2 Beak then

TKS for inputs Like to see some Images of some skinned 928 interiors - simple and basic ABT like a racer. sport seats, leave the soundproofing dump the rear AC vents and rear seats lay down a layer of carpet. Probably be a bastard car for some die hards , but to get it road worthy ? All else I can get to break... Trans anyone?
I found a rear bumper in FL and still need the tail lights and probably need to look closer at the hatch - UG the hatch reminds me of the other 5 944 rear glass panels I have stacked. I can land this delivered for around 1k . Its only 4 miles from the house. Also evaluating a pair of bmw e34 wagons that a guy wants out of.

I gotta agree with the "not worth it" group......

About the only option I see (other than the crusher) is a "crap can" racer....like 24 hours of lemons or chumpcar.....

There are plenty of early cars that RUN for great prices....no sense spending $10k making this one nice and ending up with a $4k car

There were no US 80-82 'S' cars. Only the Euro cars had that distinction of an S model in 80-82. There were no spoilers on the 80-82 non S cars. These were added later by owners. In 83-84 US models had the 4.7 motor, bigger brakes, spoilers and the S designation. Then in 85 the 32 valve engine, which is probably considered an S3.

Not quite......

The 81-82 US cars with the "Competition Package" have S spoilers from the factory.

Quite possibility the most misleading package name in automotive history.

Oh - is that with the sports seats, bilstein shocks and bigger brakes? I think I had one of those.

If you buy it, and since it runs and you are only a mile away. Drive it home, at least you'll have an idea if the transmission is good.
