Default Piston Ring Gap

I've looked thought the WSM and past RL posts, but haven't been able to locate a solid value for what the piston ring gap should be on my 87. Only one post had some values, but it wasn't clear if they were for a specific year or not. If someone could confirm what the gap range should be for the top / middle compression rings, as well as for the oil rings I'd really appreciate it. I have a set of new Goetze rings I'll be measuring up.

Thanks

There are different values for different engine types. All info is in four tech spec books. For S4 engine values are 0.20-0.40mm for compression rings and 0.40-0.90mm for oil ring.

Chances are you won't need to gap them: last two sets I had were within spec: these are off-the-shelf Ford rings we're talking about here....

I had purchased a ring grinder & everything.

From what I've read about the Goetze, it seems they can be a bit short sometimes. Hopefully mine will all be w/in spec.

ALl the goezte sets have bigger ring gaps than they need to be , dont know why they make them like this , so you will only need to worry if they are too big .
I wonder if things grow a lot for this reason , but all the rings that I seen new are like this .

That's what I've read from other posts...both here and the 944 forum. Meanwhile others have zero issues with size. I'm just hoping that my rings fall w/in spec to keep things simple.
