Default Howto remove cam cap to replace o-rings

I'm trying to replace the o-rings on the drivers side cam in my 79. I removed the bolts and I'm trying to slide it off, but something's holding it after 1/4 inch. The passenger side was easy, but I think the distributor stuff is causing me trouble. The WSM doesn't anything that should cause issue and doesn't give any details, leaving me to believe this is easy. Except it isn't working.

Thanks

Just needed some gentle tapping. I guess the distributor gear is on a little tight.

Dang, I think I need that little seal on the inside of the cap. Wish I hadn't ordered parts before I removed everything.

Just did all those in the 78. Man, they were all toast. Soft rubber o-rings had turned into brittle shattering plastic. Did the big one on the cover/bearing, the little one inside the bushing on the cam, and the lip seal on the cover.

Did you do the thick Orings behind the cover, against the block?

Exactly. I did the 2 o-rings last year, but I still had a leak. I thought it was the tower gasket, but now I finally see it's the small/fat o-ring seal against the block. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did if you skipped it.

The only way to see it before diving-in is to remove the alternator and shoot a trillion lumens of light straight upwards.
