auto shifter knob broken how to fix?

auto shifter **** broken how to fix?
hi-
my auto shifter **** with thumb press is broken when got the car...
i dissassembled the pieces and can anyone shine some insight on this?
there is a horizontal plastic piece that is the thumb depresser with a triangle groove on it, does this need a spring on the end to maintain tension?
on the metal auto shifter top piece, is there another plastic piece that goes on there? mine is just bare metal with some holes in it...
if someone can explain how these pieces work much appreciated
