steering column - worn rubber coupling

Can you hammer a cold chisel under the head far enough to pin the stud so it won't spin?

I don't think it would hold even if you could get a chisel in place

This is my spare intermediate shaft. Not sure which is top. Note that the rhs of the joint has, as well as the nut, a barbed washer (dont know a better name?) - how would you get that off in situ? Or is there a sleeve with that washer on it that comes off as a piece?

The sleeve is flanged, so you can't take it out without removing the barbed washer first. You drop the rack down and leave it to hang on the tie-rods, then there is plenty of space to work on the shaft...
