928 86.5 aut vs BMW 335i

Judging by Ken's typical dyno numbers for the '85-86 cars with his goodies they will all outrun a stock GTS.

My '85, in stock form was a lot faster than a GTS. Did a 13.7 in the 1/4. The following year, with only a chip change, it went down to 13.5sec. The car was stock weight and stock tire size. The early 32Vs are very under rated in my oppinion.

From startup I had a little wheelspin, which the BMW did not have.'
The gap was pretty constant at about 20-25 meters, it was however obvious the BMW had faster and more gears. Everytime the 928 shifted up, the gap increased a litte....
Dont know if the BMW was tuned or not.

300 crank is what the 335i is rated at 77F/25C, but it will make more if the air is cooler. Having turbos, it will make more than the S3 will at a lower temp. A '86.5 w/X-pipe and S300s chips will be making 330~340 crank (@77F). They weigh about the same, 3500lbs/1890kg, but the 4-speed auto has big gaps in the gearing.
The forthcoming 'Black Edition' high cam retard chipset, plus a little tightening of the shift cable, should let you keep up with, or pass the Bimmer, next time.

+1 most modern "sports" cars are porkers.
My 79 weighs 3,040lbs, need to shave off 41lbs.....
Are you talking about some desktop calculation using power / weight or the windshield mounted measuring devices.
Only asking because the in-car mounted devices are rather accurate:

Noticed most of the BMW sedans are shift to 3rd about 15 ft past where my GTS shifts to second and are shifting to 4th where I shift to 3rd when at an autocross. My times usually beat them so the shifts are NOT at the same speeds.

Now as for making up 20-25m, at those speeds, will be though. Tire spin is not to blame as the 928 needs a bit of spin to get a good launch. Otherwise it bogs down at the starting line.

Phone app, G-Tech probe all of them can be close to the real thing but many times they are off. Then there is the variable of is the road flat and level? If you take it to the track, all this becomes a non issue. Not too many people will argue with an official timing slip.

On the way home from dinner tonight I had a new Ford Fusion Sport want to race my 83' To bad I had the wife in the car she hates speed. Anyways she was on the phone so I turned the raido up a little and let him go but then he slows down and then speeds up when i get next to him so at the next light i let him take me off the line so she didn't know what was going on till i hit 2nd to 3rd was out in front but had to back down around 110 or so because she was yelling and pissed off. Not a BMW but its always fun to play around can't wait to add a SC kit so I can lay some power down, not many options for the 4.7 but it is easy to work on.

Flash the ECU on a new 335 and you INSTANTLY have a 400HP car!!! A neighbor has a 135 like that. OMG FAST! Will eat any stock 928 ever built...easily!
BTW, Ken, when are you going to start making some more power for us S4/GTS guys??? We need some help to stay ahead of these damn POS S3's you are creating out there! LOL!
