Default Windshield washer issues

I just added some pictures of the repair I made to the windshield washer tank. The plastic is soft or brittle so Porsche added a metal sleeve that rusts away to nothing after a time. I replaced the sleeve with stainless steel. Worked great.

Now however, the tank is stained with rust. Any one have a suggestion of how to bleach the tank.

There are some other pictures of the restoration in progress.

I went through this 6 months ago. I experimented on the filler neck, I tried:
- Soaking in water/bleach solution
- Comet
- Soaking in teeth whitener (suggested on some automotive blog)
- Soaking in an Oxi-Clean solution
- Soaking in hydrogen peroxide with Oxi-Clean solution
- Soaking in Vinegar
- Oh, and CLR too...

Nothing worked. I also bought a used spare coolant overflow tank that was stained and tried it on it at the same time. Same thing – nothing worked. There's a u-tube video of a kit dying their yo-yo with mineral spirits, a little paint and water and soaking the yo-yo in it. It's like the mineral spirits soften the plastic and allow the paint to permiate into it--but I didn't try that.

My advice to anyone buying a new one is to soak it in hot water for a little bit and pull out the metal sleeve and insert a plastic one before installing it. Once the rust and bromide discolor the plastic, it’s not coming out. And if it rusts bad enough, it will split the plastic (as seen in this pic).

I used some stuff one time called Naval Jelly which I think was a pink colored thick gravy-like stuff that was smeared onto a steel panel that was rusted and it ate the rust away. I wonder why that might not work on the rust stain in the plastic and not harm the plastic in the process. I guess I would give it a try. I think I bought the stuff from JC Whitney.

the rust from the collars will also get into the pumps and then be squirted onto the hood thus staining the paint ,
A washer bottle refresh should also be part of the general vehicle inspection
