New to me 84 Euro S auto
Hi,
Last night I picked up an 84 Euro S auto for sale locally on ebay. No ppi or test drive; I know.
There are many things right with this, but I was surprised by the throttle response, doesn't feel strong. I drove it home over a small mountain (I 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose). I haven't depressed the juice pedal more than half way, so perhaps that's the problem, but I'm reluctant to do so before it is inspected.
Anyone local (south bay in SF area) interested in taking a look?
How about a recommended mechanic? Devek isnt too far away. "T&D Performance", recommended online elsewhere, is closer but I'm not too pleased with online reviews of a shop at the same address and phone number, BTM Motorwerks.
I plan to do all high labor light equipment maintenance myself and become very familiar with this, but I'll certainly pay for a post inspection by a reputable 928 mechanic (rare as hens teeth?) and have a budget for professional work.
Jim

do you have plans for re-doing interior yet? just curious because I'm starting to think about front seats for mine.

Snowglobe,
Don't expect ***** to the wall performance from your Euro until about 3500 RPM. Then hold on.
And kudos to you for not running it up there until after you get it checked out.

Smart to wait on hitting the gas, you have to check the status of the belt first (last change and the current tension), then all the other fluids, then the throttle cable tautness, adjustable in engine bay against firewall.
Then when everything is OK and you have a clear road you can hit the gas. Euro auto's have a kickdown switch that needs to be engaged in order to enjoy the full force of that engine. To get into "kickdown" requires a heavy foot. But be ready, you should accelerate very hard, pushing you into the seat. Regular application of the pedal will result in very tame response.

Congrats Jim. Do you know about Sharks in the Park? Next Saturday (May 5) in Berkeley's Tilden Park, largest gathering of 928's in NorCal. Even if your new purchase isn't ready for a public appearance, you should try to make it and meet everybody.

Lots more picts in the ebay listing link in the first post (hard to see just the word ebay greyed).
Euro S is not much different at lower rpms, its a top end difference. Another issue is that it looks like it sat for 10 years before getting through smog in Feb of this year.
Calif smog history report.
Make Model Year Date / Time Pass / Fail Certificate

I would start with a FULL inspection before driving more.

That's pretty cool. I saw the listing, but missed the mirror not optioned (M261).
It probably has a terrible exhaust system compared to what it was originally equipped. Who knows what O2 loop system has been installed.
MAF probably needs rebuilding. ROW 16V w/LH2.2, EZF, are sensitive to MAF aging, and have lean base maps to start with (search John Speake).

Bowden cable too- if it isn't downshifting and is lugging...as Dangler said you can get bogged down outside of the real power range. Euros are cammy beasts.

Nice find.............there a couple GOOD 928 shops near you......CT Automotive in Campbell is quite good too.....
Of course nobody is as good as Bill Ball, who will be at Sharks in the Park (he hosts it).....
I trust a shop in Ceres CA..but its a bit of a commute for you....but finding a Porsche trained wrench who actually went to 928 school back in the day is RARE....
