Sunroof Motor Adjustment
1. When I open the sunroof automatically the motor continues to groan after the sunroof is completely open. If I tap the sunroof switch the motor will stop. I replaced the sunroof motor a couple of years back and it has always done this since. How can I cure the moan and groan? Is there an adjustment to the motor or transmission that I should do?
2. I have not used the sunroof in a couple of years and now the rear edge of the sunroof does not popup all the way. I sprayed some lithium grease with no improvement.
Could these two issues be related?

I've had the same problem and it's a symptom of old dried out lubricant slowing the whole thing down, with the resistance becoming so great that the roof senses it's closed when it's not and all sorts of other symptoms. Electric seats jam up for the same reason.
You need to pull things apart and clean the old dirt and grease out, and then lubricate. When they get like this just spraying lubricant doesn't work ... it just makes an abrasive paste of all the crap that's there.
Search for posts on sunroof adjustment (there was one a few days ago) to see the write up by MrMerlin on stripping and adjusting the sunroof.

A couple of real good write ups for sunroof.
1- My roof does not autostop (86.5). Once it's open it stops but if the button sticks it will continue to try to open/close.
2-Remove the roof, (look for the write up). I cleaned all the old grease / gunk with denatured alcohol and some cotton rags. Re-grease with some light waterproof grease. I used phil wood grease for bicycle hubs and bearings. Light and water proof, stays put, and will not dry out like lithium grease.
I do not like lithium grease for stuff like this because it will dry up and your parts will be left unprotected.
High speed wheel bearing grease (like the kind for automotive bearings) is too heavy.

Spent a half hour watching my sunroof open and close. The motor bogs down when it starts pushing the sunroof shade down. Some of the black paint on the passenger side rail is worn away leaving me with the opinion that the sunroof rubs that rail too much. If I close the roof from the point the sunroof shade is already down the sunroof will close all the way with that satisfying thump letting you know the sunroof is closed. Why would the motor bog down? Is the front of the sunroof set too low? It seems perfect when it is closed.

I don't think so, The rocker switch returns to its proper position after I press it.
How does the motor know it is at the end of its travel? It's almost like the motor thinks the roof is not all the way open and on the other hand it quits before fully closes the sunroof.

Issue solved - car battery was low. After all the lubricating I started the car and the sunroof closed all the way.
Still not sure I like the motor spinning for a few seconds after the sunroof is fully open
Thanks.
