does anyone here know anything about an ebay seller Griplsd? They have a setup to make an lsd by adding springs and plates to your diff. Looks ok just would like to know there track record at anything to see if they are honest or not. Thanks for any and all,Ray

Well, you dont want that Ebay route.

Best solution would be rebuild your rear end, and add a used LSD pack.

Dont do that Ebay noise..

Best option, find a good late model 5 spd with LSD, rebuild it completely, swap it out and sell the old transmission.

Some variation depending on state of your existing transmission, and plans for use that might make the early LSD more desirable.

OMG! Has anyone seen that ebay crap?

RFJ, no, you can't simply add something simple and transform an open diff. That ebay seller is a con man ripping people off. I'm sure Ebay wont do anything unless the grief they get from victims exceeds the money they make form the con man. In cases like this the amount is small and the victims will be too ashamed for thier gullibility to take action so expect to see more of these.

Adding an LSD unit is a straightforward job but involes taking the diff apart and setting up gears after moving the ring gear to the new carrier. As far as diff/ring & pinion jobs go, the 928 is better than most with a nicely designed diff.

How would one go about using an early lsd with an 86 gear box and still have lunch money left?

Mike, i am not trying to try your patience but on early mopar, ford rears the setup does not look that much different. Also thinking about dollars what would i be looking at to put a lsd diff from someone like 928 inter/ yes i should ask them and what would it cost to upgrade to 80%. I have set up r&p before(35 yrs ago) just time. thanks for any advice,Ray

Well since you wouldn't need to set the pinion depth, that leaves moving the ring gear side to side to get the correct backlash.
One time I did this and the parts were so consistant between the new lsd carrier and old open carrier that no shimming was required at all.
The WSM has some notes to follow about little details that are helpful.

They have methods for restraining the pinion to measue backlash that are very involved and you may be able to simplify that. If you have a light, careful touch as you move the ring gear in varying directions, you can watch the dial indicator and effectivly read the backlash even though the pinion will be moving.

Misc tip: resist the urge to pry off the side bearing housings and rig up a puller, the job will be more enjoyable.

I bought a early LSD (more friction plates) from 928Intl during a Dec sale, bought the adapter from Carl 928ms, opened up the LSD and flipped the friction disc's over, and now its waiting to go in the tranny of one of my cars the next time I need to take one out. The swap needs some careful measurements, but Greg Brown knows how and what.

Best to start with some real serious lunch money.
