Leak around edge of fuel strainer-ethanol resistant epoxy, etc?
My '78 has a leak from around the edge of the fuel strainer. I have perused the threads but have not seen a fix for my situation--over 1/2 tank of 10% ethanol gas. Is there an ethanol resistant sealer/ epoxy I can smear around the strainer edge without having to drain the tank and run the risks involved in removing the strainer? Also is it advisable to try and tighten/snug up the strainer?

Empty the tank and replace that strainer seal. You don't want to micky mouse fuel issues.

+1 ..... As you read through the threads on fuel line/pump issues you probably noticed these cars with old components catch fire regularly. Do the right thing, fix it correctly, to include replacing all the fuel lines for added security.

Ethanol and/or fuel additives can corrode that rubber seal between your strainer and the tank. Get a new seal from your friendly vendor and it should last a decade or two even when exposed to nasty modern fuels.
You don't want to use an epoxy if you can help it, all that will do is adhere your strainer to the tank forever. Also the design of the tank is such that just sealing the threads (say with teflon) isn't adequate, you need that seal between the exterior wall and strainer because fuel will flow around the threaded sleeve.

Replaced fuel strainer, seal and hose from fuel pump to strainer (sourced from Roger). Will be discussing with Roger rear fuel hose replacement--already did engine compartment hoses.
