Default Ball joint

Hey gang,

I've completed the tie rods and one ball joint replacement. My question is... How far can I drive without an alignment before I mess up the tires?

It's a 87 S4

Use a tape measure to set the toe to zero. Takes a few minutes.

Get the toe as close as you can to zero. Err towards toe in rather than toe out, as the toe will go towards toed out as the suspension settles. You can set caster at minimum on both sides, and do camber too with a carpenter's level. Drive a bit, at least fifty miles or so, before you get the alignment done.

That's really the kicker. You need to drive it to get the suspension settled before getting an alignment. Otherwise you need to get it aligned again.
