Hello,
I'm currently rebuilding a '79 steering pump from my 928. I ordered a reseal kit from Porsche but the seals are different. In the rebuild kit there are 2 plastic rings, 1 o-ring, 1 oil seal and 1 "special: seal. My old pump only has 1 plastic ring (thinner than the one in the rebuild kit) and 2 o-rings. The oil seal is identical.
Can anybody tell me how to instal the kit, the special seal doesn't fit anywere, it doesn't fit in the groove wich seals the endplate and I dont know what to do with the 2 plastic ring. Kan sombody also tell me were the original plastic ring is located in the groove, is it seated pulley side of near the back of pump?
Thanks
Regards
Ralf

I've had mine apart and put on a new front seal but not with the kit. I suggest that what you need replace are the oil seal on the front and the o-ring for the cover on the back.
These types of kits often have extra parts to cover slight variations in the units that were actually made. I wouldn't worry if there were left over parts.

Just did this on my '82.
Mine was different than yours as well. Mine had the 2 o-rings with plastic rings. My kit from Porsche had 2 plastic rings, 1 o-ring and one seal. I put the seal at the back for the cover plate and put the o-ring and one plastic ring in the grove for the pump (as was my original).
The plastic ring on the rear (end cap) was on the inside so the o-ring is toward the opening. The inner o-ring and plastic ring was the opposite. I would guess that my unit was original based on the amount of gunk I had to take off.
Good luck.
