If you ever hold a Jerico gearset you'll understand. They are some serious parts and very nicely made too with beautiful finishes.

Hearty straight cut teeth, beefy dog rings, made for racing.....Ahh.

Race only setup limits customer base so much than whatever is done will be series of one offs. With proper kit there would be much larger market of 4sp automatic to 6sp manual conversion to pay for development costs.
Well as I mentioned there is straight cut gears available for the TR6060 and apparently if you read the link there is another set of gear available with a 22 degree helix that is in between straight cut and a full helix style gear. Have a look at those gears made by Liberty, they look pretty beefy to me

This way the new tranny option can have a wider market than just some one offs. As one way to look at it would be that a standard TR6060 box or a 6060 box with some minor upgrades can handle any street application and as you have quite rightly raised Erkka that having 5 normal or performance gears and one overdrive for highway work is a great option especially how fuel will only be getting more expensive. That overdrive is a major strategy for the Corvette getting such good milage for what it is.

Worth a look at?

If Roush is using them, they would hold the power & be reliable

Does anyone know specifically what fails in the 928 boxes normally? I've heard of the input shaft cracking near fifth gear, but don't know much else. Is it the slider hubs, gear teeth (not from what I've read), the gear splines for the slider hubs? Anyone? Perhaps instead of bashing the 928 box it needs some specific parts dealt with. I think I've mentioned it before, but on some of the Mitsubishi's I've dealt with the shaft preload gets tightened up to the point they're a bit stiff cold, but when the case warms up they're perfect to maintain the tapered bearing preload...which keeps the gears closer together.

928 auto box is pretty good for the time and even now ok compared to some new boxes but theres no way it compares to modern performance semi auto / multi clutch / etc. I think it could be one of the biggest advances for the 928 if one could be sourced that gave 6-7 spd etc.

All new automatic transmissions must have control of an electronic throttle. The trans actually commands the engine torque in the lower gears and during shifts. Putting one of those transmissions behind a cable throttle engine will dramatically shorten it's life. It also won't shift correctly.

Yup...ive noticed that in a lot of the high HP wondercars with auto boxes.

You floor it..and you can hear the RPM float around a sweet spot depending what you are doing. Very well managed. With the slightest lifts at shifting too.

CVT cars are fun to drive, they just sit there at redline as the transmission moves through the gear range.
