Default Help with PPI in Las Vegas

Guys,

Do we have any folks on this list in the Vegas area that might be able to go check this car out for my good friend in Houston, Lori? She has been looking for the right 928 for over a year now. She is one of the few that actually owned a 928S from NEW back in the day. She has been w/o a 928 for quite some time and is ready to come back to the fold.

Nice looking spoiler delete '86 here. She would REALLY like to buy the Nougat Brown S4 that has been listed on and off here on RL, but the seller is in SoCal working and the car is in NorCal and he CLEARLY has no intention of selling the car. He would not work with her or anyone else we could suggest even over the holidays. The pics make it look like a gorgeous car, but still... So, I told her there is no way that guy is selling that car. Probably only listed it because a spouse made him do it.

Anyway here is the link to the car Lori is now considering. Sounds like a good one, but we want to be sure before we start bidding and buying!

TIA!

Wonder why Hawaii plates ?? Which brings up corrosion issues from salt air which gets all over everything under the hood, undercarrage. Did you pull a carfax for history ?

I really, really like this car. Has been for sale for awhile I believe. I saw it last year FS on-line. I think you need a good PPI before bidding. Fallbrook is in between San Diego and Riverside.

Could a PPI be done from an expert in LA? Only about 70 miles away from LA. I do not know of anyone down in San Diego that does PPI? How would that work? Have someone drive it to a shop and drop it off? Pay an expert 928 guy to drive there and inspect?

Calling all LA and SD experts!!!!!!!!

Maybe get one of the San Diego guys to give it a good, eyes on, then decide if its worth taking to Precision in Anaheim for a full PPI?

Carfax with HI history is part of the ebay listing. Ocean View, HI is the southern tip of the big island, no clue what that means for a car, but it doesn't seem real close to the ocean. Generally I would think HI time is a pretty big mark against most cars without evidence showing otherwise, too much salt in the air, too few mechanics that know anything about a 928.

that is one sweet looking car. If it is in the $8k range (as per the starting bid) then just get it and deal with whatever - it is very clean looking, probably well taken care of. I saw someone tried to yank out the sensor in the dash, and yes the ear hatch is out a bit and the rear wiper looks nonfunctioning - small stuff.

I stopped by an independent Porsche shop on the way home today to inquire about a PPI for you and chit chat. He drives a 928, I bought his son's 928 from him. I asked about doing a PPI, he said he does them all the time. He had 2 other 928's at his shop for inspections and repairs. He is a very nice guy and been there for 36 years.

If the car is located in Fallbrook, CA then perhaps;

Shop is located in mission valley, San Diego, owner's name is Mark ,of course (all Marks love Porsche) - Precision Indepedent Porsche # 619.563.5927. You may be able to set something up for a PPI or in Anaheim as stated above. Just another option.

If I knew enough to actually be able to critique a 928, I would volunteer but I am not qualified. I can though ask questions very well.

Mark,

For me I really just want eyes on it... I want to know if it has scratches or dents that don't show up or that have been hidden and if the car runs smoothly and drives the way it should and is smooth and nothing is rattling and causing problems.

So, Mark, I'd love to have you put eyes on this bad boy and let us know what you think...

If it looks good enough then we can think about getting it up on a rack and doing a SERIOUS PPI! Let me know if you are up for that Mark!

If you are really interested, yes I could that.

I will try and call tomorrow and see if the car is available to look at on Saturday (work is killing me, call France in the morning, talk with Singapore in the late afternoon and try and call Dubai sometime in between, this global economy stuff is getting very tiresome, geezzz).

I'll check with a friend in Fallbrook and see if he can go with me and put another set of eyes on it.

James--

Call the seller and explain that you are buying it for Texas. I'll speculate that he can't get it smogged here in Cali, so a potential buyer from here is told it's NLA. Current Cali rules say that the SELLER needs to bring the car into full emissions complaince before selling, and that's a high hurdle for many cars arriving from other less ruthless states.
