I rarely, if ever, take offense when others ridicule me or things of mine, truly. Indeed, I find it a compliment when I have spurred others to react strongly regarding my foibles. Besides, in my life, I've been called many things, the one I like most is "memorable". Good or bad is fine. I've come to realize that perhaps the purpose of my life is to serve as a warning to others.
Back to Mr. Bond, what can I say, I've been an admirer of his since I was in high school. I thought him long dead as he was pretty old back then. I moved to Arizona two Summers ago and recently recognized a pair of his boots on a doctor, I exclaimed "Paul Bond Boots!". The doc was surprised I knew what they were. He disclosed to me that Mr. Bond was indeed still alive and still running his business in Nogales, AZ. I drove there the next day. What a fine gentleman he is, proof when nothing matters more than quality and craft, there is always a market.
Even if Western Boots are not your thing, spend some time on his website just to see what a master can do. He has associates that work them, people who wait years for the opportunity, sort of like the Frank Lloyd Wright minions of yesterday and today, Frank Gehry. That Mr. Bond was well impressed with the design, materials (he really loved Paul Champagne etched Pascha and ability to color the leather in a metallic color), and my enthusiasm, was personally amazing to me. He worked several parts of the boots personally, hard for him to do these days, but as he said "Young man, there is no greater reward than to do something that pleases others." Some wisdom in that.
The process is long and starts with building a "last" from the dimensions of your foot. This form is then used to build the boot around it ensuring a perfect fit for his customer. He keeps the lasts forever in a warehouse so you can just call up, describe your design or have one of his associates create one for you. Your boots will be shipped to you in about six months.

For daily use I wear RM Williams. Our Aussie friends know this brand well.

Actually when I mentioned I can't wait to see the rest of the matching outfit, I was thinking it would be the boots, matching chaps... and a smile
Dan, I would love to have a pair of boots just like that, only in black/guards red, and would wear them with pride... whether I was racing or not.

Dan,
Those boots are fabulous! I knew immediately where the colors came from, and the pascha leather treatment. The picture of your car is also GREAT to see in the flesh. Hope it is really that well completed now.
I do have one slight suggestion, however. Having grown up wearing boots with toes and heels like the ones on your "928" boots (and currently have a couple of Lucchese's in my closet), we NEVER considered them very good for racing (by foot, or in cars). They are really great for "riding" however, and all those Texans (and a few Arizonans) are cognizant of why the toe and heel are shaped they way they are. Mr. Bond obviously does fabulous work. Didn't even know about him the last time I was in Nogales (1968!).
Ride-em Cowboy (but don't race-em!).
Cheers,
Gary

That pic of the car with the boots and seat is from three years ago. The "before" if you will. The "after" is coming along.
